We have received so much positive feedback and excitement from the community, downtown shops, and vendors. But first I would like to recognize our amazing committee. The following individuals have been volunteering their time since August to plan this wonderful event. I admire the hard work and dedication of these volunteers, because let’s face it, planning an event for over 80,000 people is quite the task!

2008 Downtown Days Committee
Gary Fruits: Committee Chair
Doug Anderson
Rob Binney
Phyllis Branstetter
Scott DeVouton
Trisha Drape
Dave Eames
Todd Haley
John Kelly
Fred Liggett
Angela Padilla
Mary Pechar
Jim Schultz
Kathy Smith
Linda Wallis
Stacy Brandt

City of Lee’s Summit, LS Police Department and Fire: Thank you for working with us and helping make sure that this was a safe and fun event for everyone involved. Without the support from the following businesses, events like this would not be possible. We are so lucky to have such community minded businesses that see the value in events such as this.

2008 Downtown Days Sponsors

Verizon Wireless
Jerry’s Bait Shop
Aquila
Cumulus Radio
Bank of Lee’s Summit
St Lukes East- Lee’s Summit
Lee’s Summit Medical Center
HNTB
Curves
Ledford Insurance
State Farm Insurance, Dan Ripley
Summit Insurance
Decorative Lites and Decorations (Jim played a huge role with all the electrical!)
TMC Lakewood
John Knox Village
Missouri Gas Energy
Metcalf Bank
Lee’s Summit Arts Council
Paul Schwartz, CPA
Hawthorn Bank
Hampton Inn
Globe Electrical Corp (they are the reason we had power for the event... they are WONDERFUL!)
A special thank you to everyone that helped us out over the three days. height: 281px" alt="Eve%206.jpg" src="http://www.leessummitdowntowndays.com/storage/Eve%206.jpg" />

The Downtown Days... Streets Alive festival planning committee recently announced their headlining act to play at the festival taking place in Downtown Lee’s Summit on June 6, 7, and 8, 2008. Eve 6 will take the stage at 9:00 pm on Saturday, June 7th, for a free show in the streets of Downtown Lee’s Summit.

Eve 6 is returning to the musical world after a three year break from touring. The former RCA recording artists are best known for their smash hit “Inside Out” and graduation anthem “Here’s to the Night.” Eve 6, from La Crescenta, California, first burst onto the music scene as teenagers in 1998 with their certified platinum self-titled debut. After touring for over six years and releasing three albums the group decided to part ways in 2004. However, since then the group has decided to entertain once again and is working on a new album.

“Ever since Eve 6 has posted us as a tour stop on their website our phone has been ringing with people wanting more information,” said Gina Tominia, Assistant Director for Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street. “My favorite part is asking people where they are calling from, because quite a few are out of state, and I love hearing their excitement when I tell them the show is free. I think this band, along with all the other fun things going on at the festival will bring a lot of people to Downtown Lee’s Summit for the weekend.”

Live music is a huge part of the Downtown Days festival. With three stages full of all kinds of acts, guests are sure to find something entertaining. Other feature performances include tribute bands on Friday night, music of the decades on Saturday and jazz music on Sunday. Family friendly entertainment will also be available throughout the festival in the Kidz Zone, with performances by Radio Disney on Saturday.

Other activities during the festival include a car show, carnival, face painters, fine craft and art vendors, food vendors, Sunday brunch, beer garden and much more.

“It just feels good to have our annual summer festival back,” said Tominia. “Now that our downtown has beautiful new streetscaping we are ready to welcome back the 80,000 plus that look forward to this event year after year, and show off just how good we look. This festival has many elements of our traditional Old Tyme Days, but we have added new life to the event.”

This event is being presented by the Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street in partnership with Cumulus Radio. The mission of Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street is to promote downtown as the center of commerce, culture, and community life for residents and visitors alike.

This Just In..

***SPACE STILL AVAILABLE FOR COMMERCIAL AND HAND CRAFTED VENDORS... Recently, Downtown Lees Summit Main Street announced the name and date for this new regional event: Downtown Days...Streets Alive!, which takes place June 6, 7 and 8, 2008, throughout the new streets and sidewalks of Downtown Lees Summit.

In several ways, Downtown Days will be similar to the former Old Tyme Days festival; however, the new annual event will reflect the image of the newly completed downtown streetscape. This updated festival will include three entertainment stages, fine arts/fine crafts vendors, a carnival, kids zone, car show, beer garden and much more.

A committee of more than 15 Lee’s Summit residents and merchants has been meeting since August 2007 to develop the vision for this festival. The group believed the new event needed to celebrate all the unique characteristics making Downtown Lees Summit a stand out in the state and beyond. The group has planned and created activities for the festival that truly will make the streets come alive even more.

“Old Tyme Days has been a major festival in Downtown for many years,” said Chairman Gary Fruits of Columbian Bank and Trust. “The event was successful, attracting crowds of around 80,000. However, we feel the old historic event celebrating the past belong there, in the past.
